Club Coaches Meeting

We had a great meeting this week attended by approximately 25 of the club coaches. What a great turnout.

A big thanks to Dave Battershell who gave everyone a master class in how to teach good paddling technique.

We then had a really constructive conversation about winter training programs. The proposed schedule is attached and will be posted on the noticeboard. Please talk to one of our coaches if you are unsure where you fit in, are looking for a new challenge or just want to help out! Apologies for the small print - but it just shows how much is going on!

Dave Martyn.

1066 Hasler race @Tonbridge sunday 17th May

1066 Hasler Race @ Tonbridge...Sun 17th May

Hasler Competition part 3.....
We have a maximum 20pts having won the first 2 races in this years qualifying competition.......its time to see if we can keep the pace up !
We had just over 60 people representing the club at the weekend and it would be fantastic if this was replicated at Tonbridge on sunday week.
Tonbridge is an excellent venue for younger and lower division paddlers to further their racing experiences .
please fill in your availability on the notice board and /or talk to your coaches.....
for those of you promoted last weekend its a good chance to confidently take on the higher division.
for those a bit disappointed with last weekend an early chance to improve
for those happy with last weekend another chance to be happy !!

Wey Hasler Report

A great days racing.......The Wey Hasler report...

Hi all, and well done to competitors ,supporters and oraganisers for a memorable day.......The club won the day  with a maximum 240 points ........gathered from 4 K1 winners and 4 K2 crews winning...we had the luxury of another winner in a K2 crew and Rebecca Swift winning but not scoring points..!?
Rebecca marked her return to marathon racing after a long term injury by blitzing the start of the Div 9 race and then not panicking when a couple of people stayed with her to win by 20 secs at the finish line.....She performed so well she was promoted straight to Div7  ! ( rules state that any paddler promoted 2 divisions will not score points )....well  done Rebecca and good luck next time out.
The news at the top end of the divisions was equally good. Joe Beevers won the Div 2 race with Jack Childerstone a close second......A lot of hard work goes into reaching this  standard and both should be proud of their achievement in being promoted to Division one......
Dan James won the Div 3 race and will be joined next time by Chris Carson who continued his good form of late by winning the div 4 race by 4 minutes and duly being promoted.....
Hot on the heels of those in Div 4 is Tom Goldsack who came second in Div5 gaining a richly deserved promotion
Hot on the heels of Tom is Jordan Martyn who made light work of his first race in Div 6 by winning with a margin of 2 1/2 mins.......not put off by his first encounter with portages, feed back suggests Jordan some how found time for a word with supporters and fellow paddlers  on route !
Richard Hayman Joyce stepped out of the shadow of son Joe to be promoted from Div 7 to 6 along with Ben Strickland ...Tom Turcan was promoted from Div 8 to 7...
K2s......... congratulations go to Josh Westwood who won the Div 3/4 race with Tim Morris of Foxton canoe club....Lawrence Fortescue and Rob Harrison won Div 6 ....Jemima Young and Ellie Coyle in their first hasler race won div 7 ..having completed the DW for Cranleigh school only 3 weeks ago.
Sussana James( not to be out done by brother Dan..) and Millie Dimmock won Div 8 at their first attempt and then there was Div 9.......
Div 9 was won by Anne Skeldon and her daughter Rachel Dauncey ...which is a fine achievement in their first race in a boat together.......  second.......in a contrasting style....( the blitzgrieg start was worth the entry price alone !! ) was Sam Bicknell and Perry Lewis also in their first race in a boat .
together.....
Promotions from the K2 races have not been announced  yet so good luck to you all....
Finally ,as mentioned at the start ,many thanks go to the organisers and helpers on the day and all those that just turned up to support.......it made for a memorable day

Sprint Racing

National:  Good to see that Chris Carson achieved a well deserved promotion to Boys B despite the atrocious conditions last weekend at Nottingham.  Full results here.

International: The team for Sprint World Cup 1 in Portugal (15 - 17 May) has been announced and three Wey paddlers have been selected: Joseph Hayman-Joyce, Joe Beevers and Peter Bannister (we also claim half of Jonny Tye who races for WOR, but is a fully paid up member of the club!).  Good luck to all.

Wey Hasler race Sunday 26th April

Hi all, its time for the second race of the 2015 Hasler season. This is to be disputed at our own club on Sunday 26th April.
We won the 1st race.... lets come together to win our own race....Elmbridge ,Richmond,Royal, Tonbridge will all be hoping to spoil our party.....but im sure like me you do not want to give them any bragging rights back.
The entry list is up on the notice board ...please fill your names in....
In a slight change to last year there is a K2 DIV 2 RACE to be won.....the K2 DIV3/4 RACE is also there to be won by somebody.....who fancies these  challenges ?
At Elmbridge several people won races and along with others were deservedly promoted...especially in the lower divisions. It will be great to see all those taking up the challenge of competing in the higher division whether in a K1 or K2. ....
Some of you might be thinking ...I haven't done much paddling over the winter should I be racing.......I can assure you many people in the lower divisions will be in exactly the same position  .This a great opportunity to come out, be part of the team , do your best, and enjoy the day.....given the support that will be there on the day you might surprise yourself.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask........K1 or K2......Lets enjoy the racing...
