Portugal Training Camp February 2013

Time to relax but don't miss an opportunity to show off your guns to the girls.

Jack and Ed together with juniors from other clubs spent half term at the Milfontes Canoeing Village near Lisbon in Portugal. There are two hotels, one right next to the training facility and the other a few miles away which is also on the beach and has a gym, spa and two swimming pools.

"With three training sessions a day we were glad to be at the second hotel to relax in the pool and where we could step out of our room straight onto the beach! Ed Cox and Ian Wynne kept us boys hard at work with three sessions a day which included 16 km distance training sessions in our K1s then K2 sessions with different partners."

The boats were supplied by Plastex so it was so only necessary to bring along paddles, spare kit your coach and a toothbrush, although if you can't bring along your own personal home-grown olympic medalist to coach apparently Birgit Fisher is there to put you through your paces.

Ollie Harding UK distributor for Plastex took out a group from Longridge for a training camp at the same time. Perhaps we are missing a trick.

Important News: although the first regatta this year is 13/14 April, entries have to be in to your Teamleader a week before Easter, by Monday 18 March.

So don't get caught out!

Click here for the April regatta plan.

More information on the series can be found here on the BCU website.

New stable boats...

We have just taken delivery of five new kayaks. There are made by Elio and have stability similar to a Hobbie / Sceptre. They are finished in the Wey colours.

‘PLEASE NOTE THAT THEY HAVE A HIGHER COCKPIT AND CAN ONLY FIT ON THE TOP RACKS OF THE CLUB SHEDS. COULD YOU PLEASE ASSIST ANY JUNIORS WHO MAY USE THE KAYAKS TO PUT THEM AWAY ON THE TOP RACKS’

We have also noticed that a number of the higher stability kayaks have damage which seems to have been caused by people sitting in them on the grass area. If you see any beginners / club members doing this could you ask them to carry out these checks by putting the kayak on to the water.
